I was bound to go back to Bristol to snap the finished artwork of Irony &  Boe from their collaboration along Back Road, during the Upfest 2017 street art festival. I guess this is a kind of tweeting so a birdie tells me!

DJ Derek

Two Bristol legends just a stones throw away came under my radar. One I was seeking out and one by pure chance. The mural above “One Love” is a tribute to a local man well-known in Bristol as DJ Derek. My pure chance discovery was painted by Serp, Deam2, Piro and Rpm on the side of a house along Richmond Avenue. I only discovered this artwork in my search for a very faded Banksy nearby under the St Andrews Street sign.  Another bonus to the left of “One Love” is a Stewy full size stencil tribute to DJ Derek. Sadly Derek went missing in 2015 and was found dead eight months later in March 2016 aged 78. The story of the ex accountant turned reggae DJ can be found on these two links. https://www.bristol247.com/news-and-features/news/dj-dereks-death-confirmed-at-cribbs-causeway-1457700279/   https://www.bristol247.com/news-and-features/people/obituary-dj-derek/

Up there as my breast snap from Upfest!

This is a section of artwork I snapped being painted at the 2017 Upfest street art festival by the Berlin based Mezla. I came across Mezla painting in the park opposite the Ashton Gate football stadium. He told me he decided not to paint at his designated venue among the crowds,  but instead ventured into the park to paint a wall in a more peaceful environment… I don’t think many other visitors to Upfest will see his outstanding work… I’m so glad I took a stroll into the park and found him in action!!!! Mezla is an impressive cool artist that I hope we will see a lot more of…..

Street art in Iceland

Posted in Artwork, arty farty, Collage, Graffiti, observation, Off The Wall, Sticker, Street Art with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 4, 2017 by lkthayer

Lots of nice street art can be found in Iceland including D*FACE and ELLE snapped in Reykjavik. Other artist I can credit for snapping their street art are:  AGENT FRESCO,  EVOCA 1, ULFUR ULFUR, STROK, MAMMUT, NOT DEAD YET, KIDDY DUST, UGLY BOYS…. There are many  more murals that I could not snap due to not having enough time in Iceland. Well worth a visit but be warned Iceland is a very expensive country for eating drinking and accommodation!!!

Oooh la la thru the window!

Posted in Artwork, arty farty, Collage, Head, London, observation, Window with tags , , , , on June 12, 2017 by lkthayer

I made this collage using three snaps I took…. Two featured the artwork of the charming engaging French artist Laurence Cammas. The third snap was taken outside the Make Space Studios…. Laurence kindly sat by the window so I could snap her next to the sexy Oooh la la artwork she painted inside her studio.  Her oriental portrait painting looking thru the window was snapped from the corridor as I looked back into the artists doorway on my way out!  The next day I blended and cropped the images to make what you now see…..  It was a great pleasure to hear from Laurence by email that she has posted this image onto her Instagram.  https://preprod.instagram.com/laurence_cms/
